SUMMER ISN'T SUMMER TILL YOUR FIRST BITE OF WATERMELON

More Organizing in the Attic

We had a store when we lived in North Carolina..so when we moved here much of the store came with us. Part of the goal for our attic is to have EVERYTHING we can...put out and displayed so we can EDIT our treasures...some for yard sales....some to keep.....the rest God willing to sell on line somehow...the space up there to do that is nothing short of....LUXURIOUS... you can't really see from this picture but like any attic off to the sides under the side wall of 2 by 4's there is 6 to 7 feet of slanted open floor space to stash the plastic crates.. We went through each of them to condense the things we need to keep ....clothes......Christmas...family things etc. Now with floor space beginning to clear we got out the mops and brooms to start the cleaning portion of our work. I will share more tomorrow......right now my to do list for today is looming......thank you for popping in....have a COOL......BLESSED .....DAY.......Karena

The Cozy Cabin in our Attic

Have you ever dreamed about something you wanted to CREATE....not sure how you'll do it or even if it will turn out the way your hoping. Well we've been dreaming for many years of having a walk up attic.......old school......like the Walton's had. A dream my sweetie has shared with me for over 8 or 9 years ....he grew up in houses during his childhood that had this kind of attic. He has told me all about the forts, clubs, hiding places, secret nooks and cranny's he and his sisters played in. When we found this house he never mentioned all the wonderful things it offered that he KNEW I would be "OVER THE MOON OVER".....like a wonderful wood burning fireplace....a great kitchen......lots of windows letting in a flood of light in almost every room, the one thing he REALLY didn't mention was the attic. He wanted me to be surprised he saw the house first you see .......then came home to tell me about it as we were living in the Carolina's then......after I'd seen the whole house he asked me to follow him to a door in the entry way. As we opened the door he asked me ..."Are you ready ?".....this is the kind of attic I've been telling you about. As I looked up the tall flight of stairs I was aware of the beautiful wood beams the sound construction .....then as I climbed the stairs the whole length of our living space down stairs was stretching out before me in a HUGE room with 3 windowed alcoves and 2 more windows sprinkled around the space. As I approached the top step I looked around .....there to my right was the fireplace chimney with exposed brick, beautiful wood plank floors, and cross beams to die for. I was almost skipping through the space with a child like joy and excitement I couldn't contain........I felt like a little girl again.

It was the beginning of our "DREAM COME TRUE"....In the days ahead I will begin to share the transformation of this amazing space .....with much team work ....lots of anticipation buckets full of water for mopping, brooms for sweeping and lots of windex......the dream began to take shape...I hope you will enjoy along with us the wonderful thing that happens to the human soul when we allow ourselves to dream.........then to create........and finally to ENJOY.........may the Lord bless you today with his loving presence.........thank you for stopping by girls......can't wait to meet you as my "Loblolly "..... journey.... continues.......Karena

Embracing the learning curve

Trying to learn this week the layout...colors...pictures...and design of my blog.....this is such a huge learning curve for me. But I've promised myself that I am going to be brave about all this technology....reign in my fears...I am going to DIVE IN.....ALL IN....I am going to teach myself how to do the things all of you girls do with your beautiful....original...informative blogs..all of you started at the beginning too ....right?? So I say all this as a sort of a..... "DISCLAIMER"....Please be patient with me as I continue to learn how this all works. In the mean time I am so happy you stopped by. I am excited about Memorial Day weekend. I love this day to relax, ....picnic....or just hang out. It feels like a "free pass" to just enjoy family.....the sun......good food.....and the glorious permission to do NOTHING.....if that's what we want to do. My sweetie and I got together this weekend almost 16 years ago......for us it is always a reminder of our beginning.....so fun....We aren't sure what we're doing yet......but whatever it is I know I will enjoy it.....even if it's just sitting in the garden with some of my sweetie's AWESOME SUMMER TEA......we'll be together .......that's all I need.......God Bless you girls....have a DELIGHTFUL WEEKEND.......blessings Karena

Letting the Light shine

Lazy... cozy.... wonderful moments spent in our morning room with my sister-in-law Nan and hubby for two weeks has been luxurious. Not just the running around to Estate- yard sales or walking around museums or checking out new places in our part of the world. The REAL BLESSING.....has been all the conversations we've shared. Opening our hearts to one another.....laughing ....yes... sometimes crying ......praying together about the things our souls are groaning over...that gift has touched my heart...it has allowed me the opportunity to know once again that family is at the HEART of our human experience......if we appreciate those relationships ...if were able to "dive" into the story's and experiences each of us bring to the table we can bless....affirm....and value each other in knew way's. I never had a brother....in our family it was my sister only.......hubby and Nan had 2 other sisters. Listening to them reminisce about their childhood antics ........laughing with them as I hear these tales for the first time is valuable to me. Not to mention what it gives them to have the opportunity to weave a colorful ......rich.......layered memory of their lives......oh I sound a little sentimental.....that's okay....I am just trying to share how wonderful these last two weeks have been ......we take our little traveler to the airport in an hour or so.....back to California she goes. I hope all of you had a great weekend. I thank you for stopping by girls.......be blessed today...Karena
